Galashiels Sports Heritage
Love Sport?
Love your local area? Always wanted to learn about local history and how to find out more? Then read on to see the results of the Sports Heritage in Galashiels Project!
The Sports Heritage in Galashiels Project ran from March to September 2023, providing free training and activity sessions to give people the opportunity to learn about, and share thier memories of, sport in Galashiels.
We showed volunteers how to easily access historical records, and how to carry out research to identify previous sporting venues and activities in the local area. We organised walks for volunteers to identify and record local sports heritage sites, and we used the results of the research and walks to produce a brand new sports heritage walking trail for the town.
For those that couldn't get involved with the activity sessions we also gathered memories for an exhibition that was held at the end of the project in Old Gala House in order to celebtrate the sporting heritage of Galashiels!
Indoor research sessions were held at the Galashiels Library, and our outdoor walking sessions were fortunate enough to be able to mwet at and use space provided by Hike & Bike Hub, Galashiels.
We would like to take the opportunity to thank all of the project volunteers, partners, and funders who made the project possible.
